Almost 300 million tonnes of plastic waste is produced every year, that's nearly the weight of the entire human population! Plastic bags are by far one of the largest contributors to this and what is worse, they can take between 10-1,000 years to biodegrade.

Governments predominantly in Europe has placed a small levy on supermarkets offering single use plastic bags thinking this would change consumer habits. However, research carried out by the EIA (Environmental Investigation Agency) states that despite the collective efforts to tackle this, the figure went up to 903,000 tonnes in 2018 in the UK alone, an increase of 17,000 from the previous year.

A great deal of this figure is attributed to the surge of sales in the thicker type of plastic bags claimed to be a 'bag for life', however they regularly get thrown away just like a standard carrier bag.
